Africa and What it Means to Me
To some people, Africa is just a word that holds no meaning to them other than it just being another continent on the world map, but to me, it means much more than that.
As an African-American, it took a while for Africa to mean something to me, because I felt as if I had no reason to have any type of connection to it. I didn't know anything about my background and the African country that I may or may not be from, and to this day I am still unaware, but I have grown to accept the fact that Africa is the motherland and it is fine to have a connection to it.
"What is Africa to me?"
Africa is a beautiful continent which houses 54 amazing countries. Africa is the mother to all. Hence, why it is famously referred to as the "motherland", it is true. Over the recent years, I have been extremely interested in Africa and what it has to hold. The countries, the people, the music, and the food has always caught my attention as it is very interesting to see more about another culture.
The more my interest in Africa and what it has to hold grows, I hope to one day be able to travel to the motherland and visit one of the many countries and be able to gain a deeper connection.
Africa is a continent of thriving, brilliant, charming, innovative people who do not get the attention and praise that they deserve, due to where they happen to live. Africa got us where we are, and without Africa, we would be nothing.
Africa holds a special place in my heart, not only now, but always.
I felt it so much when I saw that you said it took a while for Africa to mean something to you. I also experienced that same thing, and it wasn't until I moved here and made friends who taught me about African culture that I started to have interest. Overall great blog and I really could relate.
I really enjoyed your blog. I especially enjoyed how you connected the disconnection you use to feel to Africa and how you grew to value Africa as an African American. I too would love to travel to Africa someday as I have heard its a beautiful and special place. I find it important to gain that deeper connection.
